Genya Muzyczka
I began my career as a singer at age sixteen as a church soloist and made my professional debut with the New York Grand Opera seven years later. A graduate of Douglass College, I studied voice with Theresa Minnocci and Elizabeth Perryman and drama at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York City. As a principal soprano with Amato Opera, Long Island Opera and Dobbs Opera, I have sung roles in numerous operas including Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Musetta and Mimi in La Boheme, Violetta in La Traviata, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Rosina in The Barber of Seville, Frasquita and Micaela in Carmen, Gilda in Rigoletto, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel and the title role in Manon.
Of my performance in a Tri-State Regional Opera production, one reviewer noted that “Genya Muzyczka is …refined with her lyric soprano . . .”
My solo engagements have included recitals and oratorios throughout the New York Metropolitan area—at the Vogt Theatre in Bloomfield, and with such groups as the New Jersey Alliance of Performing Artists, New Jersey State Opera West Essex Guild, the Dunellen Community Chorus, the Glen Ridge Choral Society, and the Maplewood Glee Club. As a soloist, I have sung in the Vivaldi Gloria, the Fauré Requiem, Mozart’s Exultate, Jubilate, Missa Brevis and Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Brahms’ Requiem, Poulenc’s Gloria and others. With the BRAVO Alliance of Performing Artists, I have performed in several concerts: a Don Giovanni Operalogue, Musical Travelogue: Eastern Europe, and most recently in France: Part I at the Bickford Theater in Morristown. My solo and duet recitals include Edgy Women and Women on the Edge: Comic and Tragic Women of Opera, Better Than It Sounds: A Somewhat Humorous Look at the Music of Wagner and His Composer Frenemies, A Tour of Nineteenth Century Italian Opera With David and the Divas, and From Paris With Love. I made my off-off-Broadway debut in the musical In the Very Beginning. And in addition, I directed the Long Island Opera’s successful production of Hansel and Gretel. Currently, I am a professional soprano chorister with the Cathedral Choir of the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, New Jersey.
